The Pride of Vista Lions Club

The Pride of Vista Lions Club was chartered in 1992. Our earliest community projects included buying and installing playground equipment at Olive Elementary; painting at Lifeline Community Center and Girls Inc. Our fundraisers were modest; an annual rummage sale was our big event.

This year we celebrate our 20th anniversary and we have 30 members.

Today we serve the community through these major projects.

Sight Program:            Through school nurse referrals, we provide eye exams and eyeglasses as needed

to Vista students. We also serve adults referred by such organizations as Alpha Project,

Welcome Home Ministries & Mental Health Systems – Family Recovery Center.

Dictionary Project:     Since 2003, we have purchased and distributed dictionaries to third graders in 6 of the

                                     19 elementary schools in Vista.

Annual                         $2500 Environmental Sciences Award in memory of our Guiding Lion, Rocco Valluzzi

Scholarships:               $2000 Miss Pride of Vista & $1000 Miss Teen Pride of Vista

Student Speaker Contest (progressive contest) - Maximum award = $21,250.00

Other recipients include SD Center for the Blind, Angel’s Depot, Casa de Amparo; youth sports,

RBV Band, Canine Companions, Camp Jack, Best Buddies at VHS and others.

We proudly sponsor the Miss Pride of Vista® and Miss Teen Pride of Vista® Scholarship Pageant, our biggest annual fundraiser. We also sell See’s Candies year round at King’s North County Stationers and host an annual Day at the Del Mar Races to help fund our projects.

Donate your used eyeglasses… They’re not hip, modern, fancy or fashionable. They no longer fit your prescription, or your style. But for one person living in a developing country, these used eyeglasses will put the world in focus; maybe for the very first time.

Don’t throw away someone’s chance for a clearer tomorrow.
